Amarbayasgalant monastery/Selenge province

Meaning the Monastery of Tranquil Felicity, the AmarbayasgalantKhiid was commissioned by Manchu emperor Kang Xi in purpose of serving as a last resting place for firstBogdGegeenZanabazar built between 1727 and 1736. The monastery temples are of one design, unlike ErdeneZuu monastery.

Although the communist purge significantly reduced the monastery size and capacity, it is still one of the most important worshipping temple complexes in the country only after the ErdeneZuu monastery near Kharakorum.

Nearest town being city of Erdenet in about 60km to its southwest, road to Amarbayasgalant Monastery requires good off-road vehicle, so buckle up and take the journey to this heritage!
