Khongor Sand Dunes
Called KhongorynEls (Khongor’s sand)in Mongolian, the country’s largest sand dunecontinuing about 20 km in width and 100 km in length, reaching 800 meters in its highest areas, is located in Sevreisoum of Omnogobi province.
The sand dunes change its color each hour of the day, from yellow to silver from dawnto dusk.The dunes make sound like plane engine in a windy day so it isalso called “Singing Dunes”.The Khongor River flows along the sand dunes and form oases.
One can easily sail through the sand on the back of a camel. During summer, nearby camel herders come for business so it is easy to find “camel for rent” as well as warm meal and accommodation.
